This lesson (on pages 46-55 of PDF) features two strategy board games -- one from Ghana and one from China. The first game, Achi, is a cross between checkers and tic-tac-toe. After pieces are placed on the board, you can move pieces around, but getting three in a row is still your goal. The other game, Banqi, has similarities to the board game Stratego. Pieces move around a board, and stronger pieces are able to capture weaker pieces. The exception is that the weakest piece is able to capture the strongest piece. Printable boards and playing pieces as well as rules are included. The lesson also suggests Mancala as an excellent extension.
