In this activity, learners make their own binary code bracelets by translating their initials into 0s and 1s represented by beads of 2 different colors. In binary code, each letter is represented by a set of eight digits of either 0 or 1. Each digit is called a bit, and each set of eight digits is called a byte. With two letter initials, bracelets contains 16 bits, or 2 bytes of data. Activity includes a step-by-step instructions, Binary Capital Letters Guide and initials worksheet, suggested extensions, an explanation of the science behind the activity, and how bits and bytes relate to learners' lives.
