In this activity, learners play a game similar to Hangman by guessing a secret phrase to understand how computer scientists measure the amount of "information" in a document. Some letters will be easy to guess, revealing the basis of compression techniques to reduce the amount of data used for sending or storing digital media. This activity includes step-by-step instructions with pictures, an explanation of the computer science behind the activity, and optional challenges.
